The cause of death of Eddie Van Hollen has been confirmed two months after the death of the rock icon.
The musician died on October 6, 2020 at the age of 65 following a long battle with cancer.
Van Hollen’s death certificate, obtained TMZ, Cited the immediate cause of his death as a cerebral palsy or stroke. He had several underlying causes, including pneumonia, bone marrow disorder myelodysplastic syndrome, and lung cancer.
The certificate lists several “other notable conditions” including skin cancer in his head and neck and irregular heartbeat.
Van Hollen’s body was cremated 22 days after he died and his remains were handed over to his son Wolfgang.
In a recent interview, Wolfgang revealed that his father was told he had six weeks to live in 2017. After receiving the diagnosis, he went to Germany for treatment.
“Whatever they do there, it’s amazing because I got three more years with him,” Wolfgang said.
When Van Hollen’s death was confirmed in October, stars from all over the rock world paid tribute to the musician. At this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Trigger Festival, Slash was honored by Kirk Hamet of Metallica and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine.
“Eddie van Hollen is the Mozart of our generation,” Morello said during the moving tribute. “He had the talent to come once a century.”
