The Chinese city reports that a coronavirus is found in an ice cream

BEIJING (AP) – The coronavirus was found in ice cream produced in eastern China, prompting the removal of cartons from the same batch, according to the government.

The Daqiaodao Food Co., Ltd. of Tianjin, next to Beijing, was sealed and its employees were testing the coronavirus, according to a city government statement. There were no indications that anyone had contracted the ice cream virus.

Most of the 29,000 cartons in the lot had not yet been sold, the government said. It was said that 390 sold in Tianjin were tracked down and that authorities elsewhere had been notified of sales in their areas.

Ingredients include powdered milk from New Zealand and whey powder from Ukraine, the government said.

The Chinese government has suggested that the disease, first detected in the central city of Wuhan in late 2019, came from abroad and has highlighted what it says are coronavirus findings in imported fish and other foods, although foreign scientists are skeptical.
