The Christmas storm drops power to thousands – NBC Connecticut

Thousands of Connecticut people wake up this Christmas morning powerless as a strong storm moves through the state.

Eversource reported more than 30,000 cuts at 9 p.m. Less than 200 United Illuminating customers were in the dark.

The worst of the weather is behind us, but periods of moderate to moderate rain will continue into the early afternoon with windy conditions. Early this morning wind dropped to 70 mph in parts of Fairfield County and more than 60 mph at Bradley International Airport.


With 2-3 “of rain expected when all is said and done, flooding remains a concern. Flooding of minor streets, basements and rivers is possible. There is flood monitoring in place for all l state.


Locally dense fog will also make travel difficult during the first part of Christmas.

Rain and wind will decrease throughout the afternoon and the skies will clear tonight. After starting the day in the low 60s, temperatures will plummet as the storm recedes and we will wake up on Saturday in the twenties.

Black ice zones are possible Saturday morning. Ponds and ponds left over from the storm will freeze overnight.

The skies will clear up over the weekend with a nice sunny Saturday and Sunday with lower temperatures in the 1930s.
