The City of San Antonio is creating a text alert notification for the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine

SAINT ANTHONY – The City of San Antonio has partnered with some of Bexar County’s vaccine distribution sites to create a vaccine availability text alert system to keep the community informed of COVID-19 vaccine release.

Residents who want to receive updates on the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine can now sign up to receive text notifications directly on their mobile.

Because more providers and pharmacies are being assigned vaccines by the Texas State Department of Health Services, the city wanted to create a tool that would alert the public when COVID-19 vaccine appointments were available.

The city of San Antonio will collaborate with local vaccination sites open to the public and send a text notification to reach those who do not have Internet access as well. Metro Health community health workers, partner agencies, and 311 will continue to enroll residents who do not have a cell phone or Internet access.

Announcements

Residents who choose to opt out can send text messages VACCINE at 55000 or in Spanish VACCINE at 55000 from Wednesday. Upon registration, residents will receive a text notifying them of which locations have appointments available. If you opt for this text alert system, you will not sign up for the vaccine or be added to a waiting list. This is an additional method to inform the community when new appointments are available.

As of March 2020, the city of San Antonio had approximately 1,500 subscribers to the text message alert program. Throughout the pandemic, the service has been promoted in a number of ways, including evening briefings with Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff. More than 40,000 subscribers now use the service to receive news and information from the city.
