The Coast Guard rescues boat south of Yabucoa

Coast Guard personnel in Puerto Rico rescued a man who had been adrift on a sailboat 114 nautical miles southwest of the Yabucoa coast.

In a press release, the Coast Guard identified the boat’s operator as Carl Michael Corey, 39, a UK citizen.

He noted that Corey was sailing just last Wednesday aboard the 36-foot sailboat when he was adrift amid seven-foot-high waves, as her sails broke and her sails had broken. ran out of fuel.

Fortunately, a cargo ship with a Hong Kong flag became aware of the situation and was able to send the call for help.

Another Singapore-flagged container ship remained in the area to serve as a communications platform while the Coast Guard boat arrived from the base in Mayaguez.

Corey was successfully rescued unharmed and taken to Mayaguez, where Customs and Border Patrol will assist him to continue his journey.
