(Gray News): The last full moon of 2021 slips between two end-of-year holidays.
The cold moon rises four days after Christmas and reached its peak at 22:28 ET on Tuesday, NASA says.
“The full moon of December is more commonly known as the cold moon: a Mohawk name that conveys the icy conditions of this time of year, when the cold weather really begins to take hold of us,” according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac .
The Mohicans called it a long moonlit night because it came out during the longest nights of the year around the winter solstice.
Ancient European pagans called the full moon of December the moon before Yule.
The conditions for viewing the full moon will depend on the climate and sky in your area. The moon will look full one day before and after its peak.
