Interested parents are asked to have their child or children participate in a future study to register their interest online. Children between 6 months and 12 years old can take part.
REGISTRATION HERE: Trial against COVID vaccine from Lurie Children’s Hospital
Studies in children under 12 for the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are expected to begin within three to six weeks, according to the doctor who is leading the trial at Lurie Children’s.
Dr. William Muller said the studies are likely to take three to four months to fully enroll participants and will then need at least a couple of months of follow-up to have enough data for review by the FDA.
For this reason, Dr. Muller hopes that the first vaccine approved for children will be in the fall or winter. However, he said it seems likely that approval will continue to involve groups of progressively younger children, such as 6 to 12-year-olds, after 2 to 6-year-olds, and after 6 months to 2 years.
