The man who led the creation and design of the original God of War is David Jaffe, also known for creating another beloved PlayStation series with Twisted Metal. Today he has put the design of games on the ice and makes live plays and YouTube videos periodically. The former designer’s outspoken behavior isn’t for everyone, but from time to time his connections and knowledge of the industry reveal some interesting pieces and pieces. Example: Next week’s PlayStation Showcase.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Jaffe briefly touches on what to expect from Sony’s September launch. He has a conversation he was having with someone about the event, that he was worried he wouldn’t disappoint, and that they wanted to see the “Big Sony stuff”. While not saying what he knows will be shown during the show, Jaffe responded by saying, “… It won’t disappoint you if you’re looking for the traditional and fantastic PlayStation first hand.”
He says Sony’s teams will be there “with good grades,” and is “very excited to see people’s response.” Jaffe adds that he has not yet seen the games he alludes to, but that he is “very proud” of Sony’s developers and what they are working on.
In a parallel note, in the same video, the designer mentions that he has heard that God of War Ragnarok – “or as it is called” – aims for a game duration of approximately 40 hours, which would be a great jump from the previous entry. As for whether the planned sequel will be on PlayStation Showcase, Jaffe says that “[doesn’t] “know none of this”.
Most recently on Twitter, Jaffe shared a tweet hinting at future PlayStation projects: “I just met a new one [PlayStation] game they’re doing – no idea when it’s revealed (maybe next week, maybe not), but you only know when you do, people will lose their motions. Bad ass !!! “
In another video just posted today, Jaffe clarifies his comments in the previous tweet and in the previous video. He says there are “sure two things will be shown” from PlayStation Studios that will make fans happy. The game he talks about in his tweet is a third game a friend in the industry had posted via text messages. It is unknown whether this mysterious title will appear or not, but it looks like we will see at least two major Sony games next week. But that’s just what he’s heard about Jaffe, so who knows how much the platform owner will actually reveal. There are only a few days left to find out.
So it seems like Jaffe is very excited about the upcoming show. When is PlayStation Showcase? Follow through the link to learn everything you need.
