While Tom Brady could have gotten the best pass of his career when he threw the Lombardi Trophy to another boat in the arms of Cameron Brate, there was at least one person who wasn’t impressed.
Lorraine Grohs, who said her father Greg Grohs was the silver master of Tiffany & Co. from 1967 to 1994 and designed the first Vince Lombardi Trophy, he asked Brady to apologize for his behavior while talking to Leslie DelasBour of Fox 4 in southwest Florida. .
“It just bothered me that this trophy was dishonored and disrespected by being thrown as if it were real football,” Grohs said. “I have a great history of this trophy that my father made, and it’s an honor, and I know all the craftsmen who made it when my father was also at Tiffany’s. And it requires a lot of work.”
Brady’s pitch went viral during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ’boat parade in honor of winning the Super Bowl LV.
According to Grohs, the event caused enough stress to affect his ability to sleep due to how his father’s hard work was taken lightly.
“I’ve seen this trophy made in Tiffany’s factory and it’s a beautiful trophy,” Grohs said. “My dad had to chisel the seams, he had to chisel the seams by hand. There’s a newspaper article that shows him working on this trophy. The ball is formed by hand and the base as well.”
She’s not normally a football fan, but she added that she watches the Super Bowl just to see how players, coaches and owners proudly raise the league’s biggest prize. Grohs said he wants to apologize to the seven-time Super Bowl winner.
“Personally, I would like to apologize, not only to myself and my family and the other silversmiths, but to the fans, all the football fans and the other players on the team.”
