Rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, has been hospitalized in White Plains, New York, after suffering a heart attack, his lawyer told CBS News. No details were provided on what could have caused a heart attack.
Attorney Murray Richman initially said DMX had retired from life support and was breathing on his own, but when CBS News asked him to confirm those details, Richman said “I don’t know who I am.”
DMX has been nominated for three Grammy Awards throughout his career, receiving two nominations in 2000 and another in 2001. He has also been nominated for several awards, including a BET Award in 2006 for Video of the Year, an award MTV Movie in 2002 for innovative male performance for “Exit Wounds” and several MTV Music Video awards.
Messages of support quickly began circulating on social media with the news of DMX’s status, and many called him an industry “legend”.
