PARIS (AP) – Eiffel Tower workers used a blower to melt ice that collected on their surfaces and snow blocked roads and stopped school trains and buses across northern France on Wednesday.
In the midst of a cold European cold, areas of Normandy and Brittany that were not accustomed to these icy conditions were closing motorways for lack of snow cleaning equipment. In parts of the Paris region, local authorities stopped school buses and urged parents to keep their children at home.
Snow covered the French capital and froze the Eiffel Tower.
“When the negative temperatures return, my lands are partially covered in ice! To get rid of it, we need to use a blower because the ice control salt is too corrosive for the metal, ”he tweeted at the monument, which has been closed to the public for months due to coronavirus restrictions .
Since the weekend, parts of central and northern Europe, as well as Britain, have been hit by a cold weather front. Heavy snowfall engulfed traffic and stranded drivers in Germany and the Czech Republic.
Some took advantage of the icy climates. Cross-country skiers glided across Charles Bridge in Prague, children were sledged in the normally snowless parks of the Belgian capital, Brussels, and the deep winter frost has aroused the Dutch national obsession with skating on canals frozen.
