The films that come out in cinemas between Christmas and New Year

There will be several titles in theaters during the week between December 25th and January 1st. Here’s a guide to watching movies as you continue the holiday tradition of a big screen with your family during these holidays.

Wonder Woman 1984

This is the big one. Warner Bros. ‘The superhero sequel will be released simultaneously in theaters and airs on HBO Max on the same day, December 25th. “Watch it IN THEATERS, where it’s safe to do so, ”said director Patty Jenkins implored his Twitter followers. “Look at the great work the theaters have done to make it so!” Gal Gadot returns as the main character in this DC Comics blockbuster, the scene updated from the World War I time period of the original 2017 film to the Reagan era for this second installment.


World news

Director Paul Greengrass meets with his c the star Tom Hanks for Universal’s Western drama. Set in 1870 and based on Paulette Jiles ’2016 novel, Hanks plays a Civil War veteran tasked with returning a kidnapped girl (played by newcomer Helena Zengel) to her family. The film premieres on Netflix streaming overseas, but Universal opted for a nationwide theatrical debut.


Monster Hunter

Director Paul WS Anderson has pursued a career primarily directing video game adaptations, since 1995 mortal Kombat at the six installments of 2002-16 Resident Evil franchise. Return to the genre with the action fantasy Sony / Screen Gems Monster Hunter, about a group of military soldiers who … well, hunt monsters. The film will be released in the United States, although it was pulled from Chinese cinemas due to a joke that some found offensive to Chinese culture.


Promising young woman

Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan (An education, The great Gatsby) plays the main character in this dark comedy thriller from Focus Features. Fatal

Lionsgate, the fifth highest-grossing studio of 2020, had not released any new theatrical films since the success of the Covid-19 pandemic in March. But now they are back Fatal, an Oscar-winning thriller starring Hilary Swank as a police detective investigating the man with whom she had an affair.


The Croods: A New Age

The first box office film for three consecutive weekends in November and December was Universal’s animated comedy sequel. I die hard (Reissue of 2021)

Is the 1988 action thriller starring Bruce Willis, which took place on Christmas Eve, a Christmas movie? In a recent online survey of 12,000 people, 60% of respondents said no, even though film co-writer Steven E. de Souza says yes. Regardless, there are enough people who consider it a Christmas movie that the film has got a theatrical re-release for the holiday season.


Elf (Reissue of 2021)

“I’m a cotton-headed muggins,” in fact. Will Ferrell’s turn as the misadventures of Buddy the Elf after traveling from the North Pole to New York City turned this 2003 comedy, directed by Jon Favreau, into a modern Christmas classic. This year’s reissue came in third at the box office on the weekend of December 11-13. The Polar Express (Reissue of 2021)

Based on the illustrated book by Chris Van Allsburg, the 2004 capture of fantasy animation movement about a boy traveling to the North Pole stars Tom Hanks in various roles. This was the third collaboration between Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis, along with the 1994 collaboration Forrest Gump and the 2000s Cast.

Mig Germans

The Focus Features comedy follows two half-sisters, polar opposites by personality, who only learn of each other’s existence and embark on a road trip together. Luke Greenfield (The girl next door) directs.


Strange

The dark horror comedy from Universal comedy stars Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton as a middle-aged serial killer who changes bodies with a high school girl. Director Christopher Landon is no stranger to the horror comedy genre, as he has been directed Happy day of death i Guide to the explorers of the zombie apocalypse.


The war with the grandfather

These movies may not be theatrically released next week, but you may be able to see them on the big screen during these holidays, especially if you live in or near a major city.

The dissident

This documentary focuses on the 2018 franc assassination Washington Post opinion columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the urging of the Saudi government. Director Bryan Fogel previously won an Oscar for Best Documentary for Icarus, on the Russian sports doping scandal.


One night in Miami

This fictional version follows the actual night of February 25, 1964, when four legendary African-American men spent the night together: boxer Muhammad Ali, activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke, and NFL player Jim Brown. Based on the play by Kemp Powers, Amazon Prime Video offers the film a theatrical platform.


Brathuke solo is so much better

This romantic comedy in the Telugu language of India, the title of which is roughly translated Living single is much better, Follows a man who promises to remain single and unmarried for twenty years … until, of course, a woman enters his life who renews all his plans.


Herself

Phyllida Lloyd (Oh my God! i The iron lady) directs this story of an Irish woman who builds her own house as a shelter while the rest of her life is falling apart.


Women’s pieces

Vanessa Kirby plays the titular woman of this contestant tearjerker about a married couple trying to revive their lives after a home birth where her baby dies. Netflix gives a theatrical opportunity to the film.


Shadow in the cloud

Chloë Grace Moretz stars as a female fighter pilot during World War II, who must fight misogyny and evil spirit aboard one of her flights in this supernatural historical action film.


Hunter Hunter

The IFC Midnight suspense thriller follows a family living in the woods, whose lives are threatened by a voracious predatory weeper. The shark genre has seen numerous films over the decades, but the wolf genre remains a relatively untrodden terrain.


Zombie Bro

In this horror comedy, a zombie boy must be stopped by his normal human sister (not a zombie). During this current pandemic, of course, living under the same roof as a zombie can only be the second biggest risk to your health.
