Last year Blizzard conducted a survey to determine what type of trip World of Warcraft the players wanted it as a special community montage. We chose the Ancient Wandering, and now this option has borne fruit, or in this case, a damn tree, free now for everyone who has Shadowlands expansion.
The Wandering Ancient is an old and wise tree that has been slowly treading several Azeri lands since the game was released. It’s an iconic beast, which is why it beat competitors like a slimy cat and a colorful caterpillar in last year’s fan vote. Now the bark-covered beast is in play, available for free on the mounting tab of anyone who has it Shadowlands, as well as anyone who buys the expansion in the future.
The most interesting thing about Wandering Ancient, aside from its large size, is that its leaves change color with the seasons, giving players a reason to split it year-round. Unfortunately it doesn’t fly, but that makes sense. If the trees could fly, there would be none on the ground.
My favorite feature of Wandering Ancient, though, is the caterpillar behind my player character, a gesture on the mountain of community I could have been.
It’s good to have a snack on hand as you walk through the afterlife.
