Javier Burrai was the most voted goalkeeper in the selection of the best footballers of the year 2020, in a poll conducted by DAILY TRADE, among the coaches and members of the technical bodies of the First Category clubs.
As every year, this newspaper consulted with professionals to choose the players highlights of the LigaPro during an irregular season, in which there was a long stoppage due to the covid-19.
There were six categories and 28 professionals consulted, belonging to the 16 clubs in Serie A, 10 in Serie B and the two that were promoted from the Second Category.
Burrai, champion with Barcelona, was the figure in the definition of the title before Quito League, in the penalty shootout, at the Rodrigo Pau stadium. The yellow players were the favorites in the poll and won in three of the six categories consulted.
These were the results of the vote:
Best Archer: Javier Burrai, from Barcelona, scored 21 points and took first place, followed by Adrián Gabbarini from the Quito League, with six votes and Rolando Silva from Ourense, with one.
Best Defense: Williams Riveros, also from the bullfighting team, was the most voted, with 12 points. Moisès Corozo of Quito League was second, with six votes and third place went to Byron Castell, with three. Others considered were Franklin Guerra, Aníbal Liguizamón, Alan Aguirre, Luis Segovia, Darío Aimar and Angelo Preciado.
Best steering wheel: Once again a Barcelona player took first place. Damià Díaz was the winner of the category, with nine votes. Second place went to Uruguayan Sebastián Rodriguez de Emelec, with five points, and third to Víctor Figueroa de Aucas, with four. Others considered were Lucas Villarroel, Steven Tapiero and Nixon Molina.
Best striker: The undisputed winner was Cristian Martínez, from Quito League. His 24 goals in the LigaPro earned him 20 coaching votes. Gabriel Torres of Independent de la Vall had four points, Jonatan Álvez two, while Facundo Barceló and Janner Corozo were left with one each.
Player revelation: The prize went to Moisès Caicedo, from Independiente de la Vall. The young player who made his debut with the Ecuadorian national team won the election with 19 votes. Jordy Alcívar got four votes, Angelo Preciado and Aaron Carabalí two and one for José Carabalí.
Best Legionnaire: Angel Mena, who was crowned champion with the Mexican Lion, was chosen as the best Ecuadorian player abroad, with 23 votes. Pervis Estupiñán and Felipe Caicedo scored two points and Washington Corozo one.
