NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF) – The number of conspiracy theories surrounding the Christmas morning bombings in downtown Nashville continues to grow.
Former federal prosecutor Alex Little said this only makes things difficult for investigators working to resolve the case.
“I think you have to worry about copying cats, especially in this environment,” Little said. “Right now we’re living in an age of conspiracy theories where people can believe all sorts of things.”
He said researchers need to release as much information as they can safely and as quickly as possible.
“This extremely disturbing event destroyed two blocks in downtown Nashville and they should be able to point out to the public everything they can to curb any speculation,” Little said.
At the press conference on Saturday afternoon, investigators said they are tracking down hundreds of tips.
They would not discuss the reports of an interested person, even though state and federal authorities were looking for a home in Antioch at the same time as the press conference.
Little believes that if someone got out of the RV after driving on Second Avenue in the early hours of Christmas morning, chances are the cameras would have captured it.
But so far no images have been posted of a person leaving the RV before it exploded.
“There are only two reasons for this. One, they didn’t get out of the van and died in the explosion, most likely, or two, the police already have a good idea of who it is and they don’t want to inform the person who is investigating, “Little said.
Little, who is now a partner at law firm Burr & Forman, said the attack clearly shows a lot of planning, but noted other major attacks that were launched by more determined than sophisticated fans.
“The Oklahoma City bombing was a massive attack that killed nearly 200 people and was carried out by two uneducated people, who took a long time and were very determined,” Little said.
Little did he say if the bomber got inside the RV in a suicide attack, investigators are likely to find some sort of manifesto or motive for the bombing.
The main question remains: why would anyone do that?
