The former Penn State quarterback will transfer Levis to Kentucky

Another quarterback joins the Big Blue Nation. On Friday afternoon, Will Levis announced that he would be moving from Penn State to the University of Kentucky.

Levis entered the transfer portal last week. He will graduate this spring and come to Lexington with three years of eligibility.

Originally from Madison, Connecticut, the northeast connections of new offensive coordinator Liam Coen played a major role in landing Levis. A former three-star prospect, he was a red-shirt freshman when Penn State lost to Kentucky in the 2018 Citrus Bowl.

Over the past two seasons, the 6-foot 3 and 225-pound athlete has had two career starts. Levis completed 61 of 102 passes (59.8%) for 644 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Often used by James Franklin as a “change of pace” option that could make the ball run much better than Sean Clifford, his best game happened last year in Nebraska. After 21-3 when he entered the game, Levis threw 219 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown pass to Pat Freiermuth, and ran 61 yards on 18 yards as the Nittany Lions came in short of getting a amazing Omaha comeback.

Although it was used as a runner, Levis has a cannon. He has no trouble throwing darts with his right arm. Coen will have to help him use more tact as a passerby once he gets to Lexington.

Kentucky fans learned that in 2019 there aren’t “too many quarterbacks”. Having finished in FBS’s bottom six games in passing yards per game the previous two seasons, the WildCats need all the help they can get to improve on the passing offense. By adding Levis, Coen injects more talent into the quarterback competition between Beau Allen and Joey Gatewood. May the best man win.
