BUFFALO, NY – NHL players knew they would risk having a season in the COVID-19 era. But they didn’t want to take unnecessary risks.
The Sabers believe they were forced to do so and are furious.
The NHL has postponed Tuesday’s game between the Sabers and Islanders in New York, saying more time is needed for Buffalo’s COVID-19 tracking and testing protocol.
But the number dates back to the weekend. The Sabers hosted New Jersey on Saturday and Sunday although the Devils showed significant signs of a coronavirus outbreak.
Travis Zajac of New Jersey was added to the COVID-19 protocol list on Friday and did not travel to Buffalo. Kyle Palmieri played on Saturday and was added to the roster on Sunday.
According to various sources, the Sabers asked the NHL and the Devils for more information about their opponent’s health. His request was denied.
