On Wednesday, the Giants’ first joint practice with the Patriots was held. Here are some observations:
A TON OF WORK
All the receivers not available for practice (Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney and John Ross) meant a very heavy workload for Darius Slayton, who was easily Daniel Jones ’favorite target. Slayton struggled through the heat and did more than his share of plays against the Patriots side.
WITHOUT RHYTHM
The initial offensive unit was shabby. There was little in the pace in the passing game. A two-minute exercise was a disaster – two falls passed – and a supposedly less difficult 7-on-7 period caused no touchdowns. It wasn’t pretty at all.

IT HAS CATCHED MY EYES
Blake Martinez is a smart guy. He waited and then made sure to jog on the field at the same time as Mac Jones, the Patriots ’rookie quarterback. The cheers from the stands rang for Jones, and Martinez raised his arms cheerfully to recognize the applause, pretending they were for him. No wonder the Giants entrust him with directing his defense.
MEDICAL REPORT
CB Adoree ‘Jackson was hit several times and was eventually withdrawn with an ankle injury. DB Mother Harper (groin) was able to work in practice. CB Josh Jackson (calf) did not participate. LB Tae Crowder also resisted, as did DT Danny Shelton, who did not play the preseason game with the Browns. TE Kyle Rudolph left the PUP list and worked on individual exercises.
