God of War has been fixed to make the most of the PlayStation 5 and the results are phenomenal. For those who need a recap, the game ran at 30 frames per second in 1080p on a standard PlayStation 4, but the PS4 Pro offered two options: Resolution or Framerate. In Resolution mode, the game used picture-board rendering techniques to generate a clean 4K image at 30 frames per second, or you could lower the resolution to 1080p and run it at 60 frames per second in Framerate mode.
The problem is that at least on a PS4 Pro, the frame rate rarely reaches 60 frames per second, whereas it falters between 40 frames per second and 50 frames per second. Playback on a PS5 blocked the frame rate at 60 frames per second, but you still had to face a 1080p image. Now, the new patch allows you to play on the 4K control panel at 60 frames per second solid as a rock, with no noticeable drops or fluctuations. Image quality is sharp and performance never falters.
The comparison video shown above demonstrates the good level this update has – it really looks wonderful running on a PS5 now. We sincerely hope that more developers will follow these steps and update their PS4 classics so they can sing on Sony’s new console. This is brilliant.
