The Google app gets a new weather widget from the wizard

Time at a glance should be one of the most popular options for home screen widgets. So it’s weird that Google doesn’t have any branding options of its own, beyond the small nugget of the Google News widget. Looks like it’s about to change: Google’s app code indicates a brand new Assistant weather widget.

XDA detected some strings in an APK breakdown of the latest beta version of Google App. The app doesn’t show the widget to the user directly, but a bit of coating has made it stand out. And it’s … it’s okay, I guess. It is a rounded square showing location, current temperature, high and low temperature, and rainfall. That’s all.

While the design looks like it would fit well with the new Material You dynamic theme system, it currently only shows light and dark modes. There’s still time for Google to fix the issues before (presumably) enabling the Android 12 widget, among these eye-catching new watches.
