The first batch the country receives through this mechanism was 91,200 doses of the AstraZeneca / Oxford vaccine, manufactured by SK Bioscience of South Korea, for a total of $ 390,000.
With this first item, out of a total of 2,169,600 doses that the country contracted through this mechanism, the second dose will be completed to frontline personnel who had received the first dose of this type of vaccine that it had been made in India.
The country has also received more than a million vaccines against Covid-19 from Chinese company Sinovac, purchased at a cost of about $ 19 a dose.
Yesterday, Dr. Daniel Rivera, Minister of Public Health, who was in charge of receiving the vaccines, recalled that these doses in the country got them with their own funding, through the Revolving Fund of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), in charge of the acquisition of Covid-19 vaccines for the countries of the Americas before the COVAX mechanism, by means of this global mechanism.
“The important thing for us is that much of all this staff working in health centers was vaccinated with AstraZeneca, so they already have the availability of vaccines so that, between eight and twelve weeks, they can receive the second dose , and so we are within the margin, ”the official said.
