The U.S. government confirmed on Sunday that its news reports were affected by a cyberattack, while The Washington Post reported that at least two government departments, including the Treasury, were hacked by hackers.
“We have been working closely with our partner agencies on the recently discovered activity in government networks,” a spokesman for the Agency for Infrastructure Security and Cybersecurity (CISA) told AFP. for its acronym in English).

The Post claims Sunday’s attacks were related to another product last week against cybersecurity firm FireEye, which said its defenses were violated by sophisticated attackers who stole tools used to test customers’ computer systems.
FireEye indicated that it suspected the attack had been sponsored by a state.
U.S. press reports indicated that the FBI was investigating a group working for the Russian foreign intelligence service, SVR.
They added that the same group hacked U.S. government agencies during the Barack Obama administration.
“The U.S. government is aware of these reports and we are taking all necessary steps to identify and remedy any issues related to this situation,” National Security Council spokesman John Ullyot said.
