According to reports, participants discussed ways to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s ISI chief on Saturday held a key security meeting of intelligence chiefs from regional countries, including China, on developments in Afghanistan, according to media reports.
Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, Director General of Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), discussed the issue of Afghanistan with the intelligence chiefs of China, Iran, Uzbekistan, the Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, The Express Tribune reported.
Although there was no official confirmation from any, sources confirmed that the ISI director-general discussed the situation in Afghanistan and how to cooperate to ensure peace and stability.
However, there was a lack of information on the countries that attended the scant discussion.
The Pakistan Observer newspaper reported that intelligence chiefs from Russia, China, Iran, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan attended the meeting.
Geo TV reported that the heads of intelligence agencies in Russia, China, Iran, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan attended the meeting.
However, Dunya News TV reported that only intelligence chiefs from China, Russia, Iran and Tajikistan attended the meeting.
“They discussed the current security situation in Afghanistan during the meeting,” the channel was quoted as saying by sources.
But all media agreed that the meeting participants exchanged views on the measures needed for lasting peace and stability in the region.
So far, there has been no official confirmation about the meeting and the countries attending.
