The Cook County Prosecutor’s Office in Illinois said a prosecutor who claimed in court that 13-year-old Adam Toledo had a gun against him when he was shot by police was not fully “reported” before declare.
The investment was originally reported to local media before the Chicago Office of Civil Liability (COPA) released images Thursday of the body camera of the fatal encounter.
According to several reports, the prosecutor made the claim during a bail hearing for 21-year-old Ruben Roman, who was in Toledo the night he was shot.
When asked by The Hill about the reports, an office spokesman said in a statement that “a lawyer working in that office was not fully informed before speaking in court.”
“There can be no mistakes like this, and this has been resolved with the person involved. The video speaks for itself, ”the spokeswoman said.
During the hearing, prosecutors said officers were chasing Toledo while Roman was detained CBS 2 Chicago. When Toledo stopped near a broken wooden fence, he was ordered to show his hands.
The prosecutor said when Toledo turned to the officer, there was a gun in his right hand. The officer ordered him to drop his weapon and shot Toledo when he did not, the CBS 2 prosecutor reported.
But the images from the body camera published by COPA later Thursday showed that when the agent asked to see Toledo’s hands, the teenager slowly turned to the agent with both hands raised. The images also do not clearly show that he had a weapon before the officer demanded that he drop it.
