A recently released Apple internal document reveals more details about the Apple Watch Series 7, including weights, connectivity, and internal components. The comparison document that Apple has not shared with customers shows that the watch includes a new S7 system, but that it maintains the same CPU and speeds as the S6 series 6 chip.
Meet the S7, just like the S6
Last night, developer Stephen Troughton-Smith discovered that the Apple Watch Series 7 has exactly the same CPU as the Apple Watch Series 6 and this document corroborates that detail. What’s different is simply the brand, which Apple isn’t putting much pressure on.
Apple is calling for the new SiP 7 Series, the S7 chip. While the CPU remains the same, it is likely that some other small components have changed to fit the larger screen.
Series weight 7
Other details such as the weight of each model are also included in the documentation. Apple has not yet revealed this information on apple.com.
- Apple Watch Series 7 aluminum weighs 32.0 g / 38.8 g compared to 30.5 g / 36.4 g last year
- Stainless steel watches are significantly heavier, weighing 42.3 g / 51.5 g compared to 39.7 g / 47.1 g last year
- Titanium 7 Series models weigh 37.0 g / 45.1 g compared to 34.6 g / 41.3 g last year
According to the document, the 7 series has the same speaker as the 6 series, still being 50% higher than the 3 series. The 7 series has the same Bluetooth 5.0 components, the same U1 chip, the same 32 GB of storage and the same functionality of international emergency calls.
You can download the document via the Dropbox link in the tweet shared with us below. Note that Apple says at the end of the document that all specifications are still “subject to change without notice.”
The Apple Watch Series 7 doesn’t yet have a release date or pre-order date later this fall.
