According to a new report today, Apple’s iPhone 13 series will feature a redesigned Face ID system that will allow for a smaller notch at the top of the screen.

The rumor comes through the publication of the highly successful Taiwanese industry DigiTimes, its supply chain sources also claim that the ultra-wide-angle lens of Apple’s next-generation iPhones should be improved.

The next-generation Face ID system for iPhones will see some design changes with the notch size at the top of the screen to shrink and its ultra-wide-angle lens enhanced from 5P to 6P, according to sources .

The new design integrates the Rx, Tx and flood illuminator into the same camera module, similar to that of a LiDAR scanner from the rear camera module, to allow for smaller slot sizes, sources said.

This is the third time we’ve heard rumors about a thinner or lower notch for the iPhone 13. Japanese site Mac Otakara has previously cited sources in the Chinese supply chain who say the same, while the lower “Ice Universe” has also claimed that a smaller notch will arrive this year.

Both rumors have suggested that, instead of shrinking in width, the height of the notch can be reduced to make it less noticeable, so it is possible that the 21iPhone‌ 2021 models have a notch of the same length. but that it is not so high.

Today’s story states that the new Face ID camera module will be supplied by Foxconn and LG Innotek, based in Korea, while the front camera modules will be supplied by O-Film.

Besides, DigiTimesSources claim that the ‌iphone 13‌ series “will continue to use the 7P lens module” used in last year’s iPhones. However, ‌iphone 13‌ Pro models will have a larger CMOS image sensor (CIS) that will provide “resolution improvements”, while non-Pro models will inherit the CIS used in the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max:

Sources revealed that the Pro family of next-generation iPhones would have a redesigned CIS, while the other models will adopt the CIS used by the “iPhone 12 Pro” devices. The CIS will be supplied primarily by Sony, according to sources.

The rumors come from the same DigiTimes story that appeared on Wednesday in a preview version, stating that the entire ‌ihone 13‌ range will feature optical sensor change image stabilization.
