Let’s focus on one area, though, where these Jets are incredibly poor: turning takeaways into points. The Jets are the opposite of the opportunists.
The Jets defense has forced 16 plugs this season: nine interceptions and seven fights. The Jets have scored 35 points out of these takeaways. Six of those points were scored by the defense in a Pierre Desir pick-six. The foul only scored two touchdowns and five field goals.
Billings should be played to turn the momentum towards the team taking the ball. Many coaches like to take a deep shot after taking them ahead. These situations are called “sudden changes” by football coaches. When the Jets take it, the question is whether they will make or miss the field goal.
Against the Seahawks on Sunday, Marcus Maye made an acrobatic interception in the first quarter, eliminating the ball in the end zone. If the Jets had a chance against Seattle’s best team, they had to take advantage. Instead, they ended up making spikes.
The Jets haven’t had a big strike after billing all year. The two touchdowns they have scored have been rushed.
This is far from the Jets ’biggest problem, but the Jets are almost always a less talented team than their opponent. The only way to win most weeks is to limit your mistakes and capitalize when the other team commits one. That’s something the Jets haven’t done all year and it’s a big reason they haven’t won any games.
