A New York judge ruled Tuesday that the Trump Organization should hand over documents to New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) as part of her office’s investigation into whether President TrumpDonald TrumpHogan against Republicans who will not accept the election result: “They are off the track” Biden pulls Trump’s refusal to grant after voting in Electoral School illegally inflated assets for financial gain.
James revealed that it was investigating several Trump properties in August, when he asked the court to compel the Trump Organization to provide documents on various transactions.
The court ruled in his favor in September, but questions remained as to whether he could withhold documents related to an engineer in connection with the Seven Springs Resort in Westchester County.
The Trump Organization argued that the documents were protected by attorney-client privilege. Now, with Tuesday’s resolution, the organization is required to deliver those documents.
Amy Carlin, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, argued that she had “all expectations that these communications would be confidential,” CNN reported.
However, Eric Haren, representing the attorney general’s office, said the organization “waived the privilege” when it disclosed certain documents to the IRS to “make a profit,” according to the media.
New York County State Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that the Trump Organization must deliver communications by Friday.
“Once again, justice and the rule of law prevailed,” James said he said in a statement. “We will move immediately to ensure that the Trump Organization complies with the court order and files records related to our investigation. The ongoing investigation of my office will continue as we continue to follow the facts wherever they may lead.”
The Hill has contacted the Trump Organization to comment.
