The Keystone XL Oil project promises zero carbon emissions

January 17, 2021 by NewsDesk

WASHINGTON – Keystone pipeline developer plans to announce a series of revisions – including a commitment to use only renewable energy – to get President-elect Joe Biden’s support for the controversial project.

Mr Biden’s aides have previously said he plans to revoke the permit, and Canada’s CBC News reported on Sunday afternoon that Biden plans to do so in one of its first actions after taking office this week.

Biden’s team declined to discuss this report, but has said its position on the pipeline has not changed.

In an attempt to save the project, TC Energy Corp. of Canada is committed to spending $ 1.7 billion in solar, wind and battery power to operate the partially completed 2,000-mile pipeline system between Alberta, western Canada and Texas, company officials say. They also pledge to hire a union staff and eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions from operations by 2030.

The company’s plans reflect new realities at a time when Democrats are taking command positions in Washington and in an era of growing environmental and social concerns.
