NEW YORK – The infamous “Horror in Amityville” killer, Ronald DeFeo, died at a New York City hospital last week from unknown causes at the age of 69.
State Department of Corrections officials confirmed his death on Monday, Newsday reported.
DeFeo died at Albany Medical Center on March 12. The cause of his death will be determined by the county forensic doctor’s office.
The former Amityville resident was serving a prison sentence at Sullivan Correctional Center for the 1974 murder of six members of his family.
DeFeo was 23 when he shot his parents, two sisters and two brothers while they were sleeping at Amityville’s home.
The Long Island house later became famous in the 1979 film “The Amityville Horror” or “Horror in Amityville”.
