A kitchen assembler was left wrapped up after unexpectedly discovering a message and a secret gift that had been hidden under the floorboards 20 years earlier.

Craig Harrigan, of Perthshire, Scotland, was ripping off a customer’s kitchen when he came across a small bottle of Glenkinchie whiskey and a ticket placed under the floorboards.

The message read, “Jack and May lived here: three children and a dog. Cooking prepared during April / May 2001. It’s best to have a drink.”

The miniature bottle had been pinned to the wall using a nail and a cable tie, while a sweet message from previous tenants had been scribbled on the floor.

Sharing the unusual finding with TikTok, Craig explained, “So we’re taking out a kitchen and we found a message underground.”

Commenting alongside the clip, Craig admitted that his initial thought was that 2001 was not “so long ago.” his co-worker revealed that he had not even been born.

Despite Jack and May’s generous gesture, Craig said he wouldn’t be if he would have valued drinking whiskey after it had been underground for 20 years.

He headlined the post: “Doing essential work! Great find. I’m not sure I drank any of it.

His video garnered more than 11,000 views and floods of TikTokers comments that were impressed by the kind gesture of the tenants, saying he had “restored” his faith in the world.

One person wrote, “How lovely this is. I could do it when mine is over!

While another commented, “It’s actually so handsome. That’s how it restores my faith in the world. You probably won’t drink it if you use power tools.

And a third said, ‘Class man. Only in Scotland eh ‘

Another person even urged Craig to drink the whiskey, writing, “It’s okay! The seal hasn’t broken.”

But others did not seem so convinced by the finding, as one person said he expected it to be “genuine and not a little bottle”.

Meanwhile, one person suggested that Craig leave the initial bottle and add his own message, providing another surprise for the next person to discover.
