SAINT ANTHONY – Although the snow has been passing, winter conditions in the San Antonio region continue to pose unforeseen dangers, as temperatures remain below freezing.
Homes, businesses, and at least a local hospital are battling power outages and a limited water supply.
The San Antonio water system is already answering several calls and some are being queued due to the volume of calls, SAWS officials said.
Anne Hayden, with SAWS, said Texas ’infrastructure is stressed right now and customers should remain patient, as there is no solution to the problem. Water problems are likely due to electricity affecting water pumps or frozen pipes, Hayden said.
“What we are seeing in San Antonio is intermittent electricity supply, as our pumps cannot run without power. The water comes out and we don’t have water in the tanks to refill the pressure, ”Hayden said.

If the pipes are frozen, be sure to go to the meter and turn off the water. Hayden said once temperatures warm up again, keep in mind that frozen pipes could break or split, causing significant damage to your home.
If your pipes haven’t frozen, there are a few things you can do to prevent it. Read more about this here.
