The long lines mark the first day of the Lexington VA vaccine clinic

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Lexington’s VA health care system vaccinated more than 1,000 veterans today, despite the challenges of the clinic’s first day.

The organization organized a COVID-19 vaccine test, which is the first such opportunity in the country.

Vaccine demand was high. Veterinarians waited in the snow for a chance to get the shots. Some came in and out in less than an hour. Others waited much longer.

The VA said it hoped to improve the waiting time to move forward.

“We are working to get everyone into the hospital in areas where we can get vaccinated as quickly as possible.” said volunteer officer Patrick Sinclair.

Regardless, the men and women who served in our country say that everyone can help in this struggle.

“If you are thinking of not getting it [the vaccine]”Rethink it,” said veteran Thomas Harrison. “Please rethink it. Because it will help the whole country. It’s not just one person or one person, it’s the whole country.”

The open clinic will be open Sunday and Monday on the Bowling campus, near the University of Kentucky. The VA has adjusted the original times. It will now open at 8 p.m. The limit will be at 2 p.m. Anyone who is in line or in the parking lot before will be seen.
