We enjoyed it Space Invaders gets the same when it was released in 2008 by WiiWare, giving it 8/10 stars. One of the Space Invaders’ more curious, it offered a role change that made us play the invaders, destroying cities from a UFO. Unfortunately, there is currently no official method to play it since the Wii Shop channel closed, making it one of the many digital-only games that have been lost forever.
Talking to Wccftech about Space Invaders Forever, Taito gaming director Yuichi Toyama was asked about a possible reissue, answering:
Space Invaders Get Even was an exclusive WiiWare title where the player took the part of the greedy Invaders and took revenge on humanity. This is another game we’ve considered, and if we see enough demand, we’d love to be able to launch it. The biggest problem with Get Even is the control method: the game was designed to play on the Wii Remote, so we need to find a solution to provide a pleasant gaming experience. What do you think is the best way to achieve this? We may be able to replicate the controls by making good use of the Nintendo Switch touch screen functionality.
Talking more about this topic, Toyama also discusses a hypothetical idea that could revise the Get Even formula. Suggesting a game where “55 players gather in formation” to invade Earth seems like an equivalent to Battle Royale, though he also clarified that there are no real plans to launch this game.
Given that Joy-Cons can be used in a similar way to Wii remotes, as they prove Super Mario Galaxy inside All-Stars 3D – It doesn’t seem hard to beat. It’s good to know that Get Even hasn’t been forgotten, but as an obscure WiiWare game, finding that demand is another story.
