The man forced his way home from Newport Beach, fatally shot by the occupant, according to police

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KABC) – An occupant of the residence killed a man Thursday morning who was allegedly forced into a Newport Beach home, police said.

Newport Beach police said the incident occurred around 4:13 a.m. near Indus Street and Redlands Drive. The department received a call from a man who reportedly had a mental health crisis or was possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Police said while officers were responding, the man “forcibly entered” a nearby house and was shot dead by a person inside.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public and a preliminary investigation indicates it was an isolated incident.

“Right now, NBPD detectives and criminal scene investigation staff are conducting an active investigation into homicides,” police said in a press release.

The identity of the dead man has not been disclosed.
