The Cal State LA site, along with a site similar to the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum, will be co-run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state of California.
A senior FEMA official told ABC News that the site will receive a weekly allocation of 42,000 vaccines over the coming weeks. The community-focused site will be open for both outing and walking appointments and will also deploy a mobile clinic that will visit local community centers and schools.
“People will be able to come to Cal State LA using public transportation and then walk upstairs and get their vaccine,” José Gómez, the university’s executive vice president and provost, told reporters last week.
The site is part of the Biden administration’s effort to vaccinate 100 million Americans during the first 100 days of the president’s term. However, federal officials overseeing the site say it will likely be a few weeks before it goes live, while underscoring their belief that the supply of vaccines will not be a problem.
