A Texas mayor has left his position after telling residents to stop complaining about the cold after an unexpected winter storm devastated millions in Texas and left them powerless.
“No one owes anything to you or your family; nor is it the responsibility of the local government to support you during times of temptation like this! Bathe or swim, it’s your choice.” Colorado City Mayor Tim Boyd said on an already deleted Facebook publish.
Boyd resigned as mayor due to reaction to the charge, Colorado City Manager David Hoover he said NBC News.
The storm, which killed 20 people, he left Texas with some of the coldest temperatures he has seen in years with pipes freezing and left some without water or electricity.
“If you don’t have electricity, try to make a play plan to keep your family warm and safe. If you don’t have water, take care and think outside the box to survive and supply water to your family,” Boyd said. . “If you were sitting at home with the cold because you have no power and you are sitting there waiting for someone to come to your rescue because your laziness is the direct result of your upbringing.”
City residents wanted public buildings to be opened with electricity, so they didn’t have to stay home without electricity or heat all day, NBC News reported.
“The city and county, along with the electricity suppliers or any other service don’t owe you anything. I’m sick and tired of people looking for a brochure.” Boyd wrote.
