Before the dinner began, according to Politico, Trump met in a back room with former state treasurer Josh Mandel; former GOP state president Jane Timken; technical executive Bernie Moreno; and investment banker Mike Gibbons to debate the race in the Senate.
Mandel and Timken have already announced their bids for the seat, while Moreno and Gibbons are expected to enter soon.
One of the sources described to Politico that the meeting, which reportedly lasted 15 minutes, was like the “Hunger Games,” and a surprising and awkward confrontation for Senate aspirants.
According to sources quoted by Politico, the discussion covered everything from the support of Trump candidates and opposition to his removal, previous endorsements and donations and early voting in the race.

Trump has yet to formally approve any Senate race candidates, though the briefing reflects the value his support has for ambitious Republicans seeking to win seats in Congress.
