A brave week he fought a mountain lion, with his bare hands, as he savagely attacked his five-year-old son outside his home in California last week, authorities reported Saturday.
The unnamed woman punched the 65-pound wild animal and handed it over Thursday in the courtyard of the family home in Calabasas, authorities reported.
The mountain lion had dragged the boy “about 45 feet” across the front lawn during the wild attack, said Captain Patrick Foy, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
“The real hero of this story is his mother because he absolutely saved his son’s life,” Foy said.
“He ran out of the house and started beating and beating the mountain lion with his bare hands and took him out of his son,” he said.
The parents drove their son to the hospital and staff there alerted authorities to the attack.
Foy said the young man suffered traumatic injuries to his head and upper torso, but was recovering in a stable condition at a Los Angeles hospital.
A wildlife officer sent to the scene detected that the mountain lion was “whistling” at him and shot and killed the animal at the scene, authorities reported.
