The mourning swan stops the German trains

It was a cygnet error.

A broken-hearted swan lamenting his dead companion reportedly stopped trains for nearly an hour on a high-speed rail line in central Germany.

The sad swan refused to leave the runways for 50 minutes on Dec. 23 after his companion flew to the overhead power line and died, the Guardian said.

According to the Agence France-Presse, swans usually mate for life, making the death of a mate even more crushing.

According to the French wiring service, the distressed birds “sat next to the mourning body, resisting officials’ attempts to lure them in.” As a result, twenty-three trains were delayed.

Firefighters eventually captured the bird and released it into the Fulda River.
