The death of John GERRISH, Ellen Chung, his one-year-old daughter, Miju, has dismayed the search and rescue workers who found them, as well as the police and forensic authorities because of the mystery surrounding the incident.
At the time of the finding, the preliminary analysis of the scene showed no trauma to the family members, no suicide notes or any other element that could explain the causes of death, according to say Sheriff Kristie Mitchell on CNN.

Authorities confirmed that there is no telephone coverage in the area. Reference image / AFP.
Faced with this lack of evidence, rescuers treated the scene as an area of hazardous materials, due to the fact that near the site there are mines that expel carbon monoxide.
For this reason, one of the main hypotheses is that the family died of poisoning, although the US Forest Service also warned that the presence of toxic algae had been reported in a nearby river, which would add a new hypothesis.

Authorities, meanwhile, confirmed that the bodies had already been rescued and that it would be the respective autopsies that would determine the true reasons that led to the deaths of the three people and their pet.
“This is a tragic and frustrating case for us,” the sheriff told CNN, adding that the investigation will be a “long and tedious” process.
According to Mitchell, the family had provisions needed for a full day of walking, however, he clarified that there is no telephone coverage in the area and that for this reason they probably failed to seek emergency help in time.
