The National Guard will launch a system of appointments for vaccination against COVID-19

The National Guard of Puerto Rico plans to launch a system of appointments for the operation of regional vaccination centers against COVID-19 across the island, which would be released in the second locality of its kind in the Fine Arts of Caguas.

The opening of this center would be tomorrow Tuesday or Wednesday, said the assistant general of the National Guard, José Reis.

“We are preparing the facilities to open. We are also organizing a dating system, we are in the final touches to be able to announce it and make sure we start tomorrow.”, Reyes said in an interview with The New Day.

For the appointment system, the assistant general argued that the National Guard is in communication with the College of Surgeons of Puerto Rico, since this entity has an electronic register of its members. In the case of Caguas, the plan so far is to quote about 40 people per hour. For the operation, between ten and 12 vaccination stations will be operating.

The goal, Kings explained, is “Be more effective (in the operation), make it more fluid and not be so tedious for people”. He assured that he seeks to prevent individuals attending vaccination-from spending the night even from the previous night on the center estates to ensure a vaccination shift that day.

The National Guard’s projection is that the dating system will work through an app that is in the process, although they expect it to be ready in the next few days. This application would be used in the 11 vaccination centers that the National Guard will open across the island.

In addition to Caguas, the regional vaccination center at the Manuel “Petaca” Iguina Coliseum in Arecibo is expected to begin operations this week, where National Guard troops are today as part of site preparations. “There was a situation with the air conditioning system at the coliseum, we hope this situation is corrected,” Reis said.

The official said the process of enabling the 11 centers could be extended until January 15. “The number of centers we will open dictates the flow of vaccine inventories,” he pointed out. The opening of the center in Ponce is planned for next week.

“We have already visited Aguadilla, Mayagüez, Humacao and Barranquitas, which would be the next four centers,” said the assistant general. In addition to those mentioned, there will be centers in Fajardo, Guayama and Bayamón.

Total vaccines go up in San Juan

Regarding vaccination center at the Coliseito Pedrín Zorrilla in San Juan, Reyes reported that he again adjusted the limit of vaccinations per day to 800, starting tomorrow. An approximate limit of 650 has been used today and in recent days.

In San Juan, the main complaint has been that people attending vaccinations have even had to stay overnight in some cases since the night before to ensure a vaccination shift. According to the assistant general, one of the causes behind the long lines is that people continue to arrive from different parts of the island, although the center’s approach at this stage with health professionals in San Juan and bordering villages.

“This center of San Juan is not for Ponce, people are coming from all over the island”, Pointed out Reis, in making a call to people to wait for the opening of centers in their region, instead of reaching St. John. He also reiterated that he is being given a back shift to people who are in the line of vehicles and who fail to get in when the day limit is reached, but that many do not go the next day despite having the date.

“Of the 200 (with a shift from yesterday to today), 10 arrived. If you make an appointment or took a shift, use it,” Reis stressed.

Meanwhile, at the National Guard facilities in Old San Juan, staff are currently training about 60 volunteer students from the country’s medical schools, who will be offering support in the administration of the vaccine in the different centers. In total, so far, the official indicated that there are about 120 students enrolled. There will also be a training session on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the National Guard confirmed that it has today distributed 21,400 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to the 65 hospitals on the island, to culminate in the vaccination phase of its staff. Once this stage is over, hospital institutions would continue to support the National Guard in vaccinating health professionals working outside of hospitals.
