The NCAA will allow a limited number of fans in each round of this year’s NCAA men’s tournament, it announced Friday.
Up to 25% capacity will be allowed with physical distancing in all rounds, including the Final Four, a decision made jointly with state and local health authorities in Indiana. 25% will include all participants, staff members and family members, as well as fans. Masks and physical distancing will be needed.
“We continue to use the knowledge we acquired during the season about how to play games in a safe environment,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement.
The entire tournament takes place in and around Indianapolis. The equipment will be housed in hotels around the Indiana Convention Center, which will be used as a practice center.
“This year’s tournament will be like no other and while we know it won’t be the same for anyone, we look forward to offering a memorable experience for students-athletes, coaches and once-in-a-tournament fans from all over. life, “said Dan Gavitt, NCAA senior vice president of basketball. “Following the cancellation of the 2020 tournament, we are delighted to welcome some fans to all rounds of the Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.”
The Final Four will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium, with previous rounds at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, as well as Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
The Auditorium will allow 500 spectators to attend the games held there, Indiana University said.
Selection Sunday is scheduled for March 14, and the Final Four will take place on April 3 and 5.
