The new COVID-19 cases in India reach a maximum of two months

NEW DELHI, Aug. 28 (Reuters) – India reported 46,759 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, most in nearly two months, as cases rose in the southern state of Kerala after a major festival.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Asian country reached about 32.7 million and deaths increased from 509 to 437,370 in the last 24 hours, according to government data.

Kerala, which last week held a local festival, accounted for 70% of new cases.

India has administered more than 10 million doses of vaccine in the last 24 hours, a national record that Prime Minister Narendra Modi set as a “transcendental feat” for the country in the face of fears of another rise in infections.

India has administered more than 622 million doses of vaccine in total, giving at least one dose in addition to half of its 944 million adults.
