The new Jets scheme makes the backbacker a priority

As part of the preview of The Post’s 2021 NFL draft, we examine what the Jets could do in each position. Wednesday: Linebacker.

Linebacker is a big necessity for the Jets. The position hasn’t caught the eye that the offensive line or corner has this low season, however, with Robert Saleh changing the Jets for a 4-3 after years of being a 3-4 team, they basically start from new to the defender.

CJ Mosley is expected to return after retiring last season. The Jets have been arguing about their trade, but it’s hard to imagine anyone taking on their onerous contract. The team also signed Jarrad Davis as a free agent to occupy one of the defensive positions. This still leaves a starting point for grabbing and a lot of need for depth.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah of Notre Dame would be a good choice for Saleh’s defense, but there’s a chance he won’t be at the table at No. 23. Jamin Davis of Kentucky has increased the rankings of the draft communication lately and it looks like he could do it now. be a first round selection. Zaven Collins of Tulsa is another consideration at 23rd in the second round at number 34.
