A new PlayStation promise, or more specifically, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, is great news for PS4 gamers and those who can’t afford a PS5 or can’t get one because of demand and robots . According to Ryan, the PS4 will have a tail that the PS3 did not have, and this is due to the fact that Sony is committed to supporting the PS4 in the coming years. Over time, more and more emphasis will be placed on the development of PS5 and PS5, but right now Ryan is committed to supporting the millions that are still on PS4, which includes the release of more PS4 games.
According to Ryan, Sony feels a responsibility to the massive community that is still on PS4. Ryan doesn’t say how long Sony will continue to support the console and launch games for it, but it looks like the console won’t disappear immediately into the background, as the PS3 did when the PS4 was released.
“We believe we have a responsibility to this very large community and the opportunity to continue making great PS4 games as long as there is a need,” Ryan revealed. “I think you’ll see a queue with PS4 that you didn’t see with PS3. But that said, as time goes on, you’ll see more and more emphasis on PS5 development.”
This strategy is not only different from the one PlayStation adopted with the PS3 when the PS4 was released, but it goes against what Ryan said earlier this year about wanting to take clean generational breaks. It’s unclear what made Ryan and his teammates. they change their philosophy about support between genes, but it is clear that something came that did. The most obvious answer to this is the pandemic and the meteoric rise in engagement on PS4, but right now this is just speculation.
In addition, it remains to be seen to what extent Sony will support the PS4 in this post-PS5 era and whether or not this support will be significant.
