New camera footage shows police responding to the shooting of unarmed black trotter Ahmaud Arbery, while interviewing the three men later charged with his death, according to a report.
“This guy, who we’ve seen in the video on several occasions breaking into these other houses, comes out on the street. I mean he’s hooked,” Gregory McMichael tells Glynn County police in the video obtained by Action News Jax.
An officer asks William “Roddie” Bryan if he is a passerby.
“No, not necessarily,” replies Bryan, who captured a mobile video of the murder that went viral and sparked global outrage.
In May, Bryan told Action News Jax he was not involved in the incident, saying he wanted to erase his name after receiving threats.
“I really need to be cleared of that because it had nothing to do with it,” he said at the time.
In the police video obtained by the station on Monday, Bryan tells police he tried to “block” Arbery while Gregory, a former Brunswick DA investigator Jackie Johnson, and his son Travis chased him.
“When I saw him, I knew, I hated that people were destroyed here, you know. Then I shouted at them and said, ‘Do you have it all?’ And he kept running. He ran hard, ”Bryan told police.
“… They got to the end somewhere, they must have passed it. As I got out of my driveway, I would try to block it. But it was going everywhere. I already made him a few moves. And it didn’t stop, “he added.
The McMichaels and Bryan are charged with murder on Arbery’s death for allegedly chasing and trapping the runner with their vehicles before young McMichael kills him.
The video shows a blood-stained Travis walking a few feet from Arbery, who is soaked in blood, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The father and son have vindicated self-defense.
“The last thing I wanted to do in my life,” Travis said. “I was playing with my son, the next thing you know, that. … “If I had stopped this would not have happened.”
Gregory says, “I said,‘ Travis, no! Don’t shoot! Do nothing! ‘The man turns and approaches him! And they start fighting and Travis shoots him right in the damn chest!
“The boy was trying to get his shotgun out! [Roddie’s] I got it on video, “he adds.
“To be honest with you, if I could have shot the boy, I would have shot him myself,” he hears police on video, according to the AJC.
Arbery’s father, Marcus Arbery Sr., said he was praying for the three men to be convicted.
“When I see a guilty verdict, I will know that the justice system is moving forward and not making us return African Americans 400 more years,” Jax said, according to Action News.
