Only one of the 30,000 people who have so far received the Covid-19 vaccine in New York City had a severe adverse reaction to the shot, city officials said Wednesday.
A city health worker suffered anaphylaxis after getting Pfizer Inc.
-BiodNTech SE injection. The worker, who was not identified, is in stable condition, officials said.
A spokesman for the city health department did not provide further information about the worker. The department is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to track other side effects of the vaccine, officials said.

“We will continue to monitor these events and make sure we take them seriously,” city health commissioner Dave Chokshi told a news conference Wednesday. He added that the serious adverse reaction was uncommon and that vaccines are very safe overall.
As of Dec. 18, there were six reports of allergic reactions to the Pfizer-BioNTech trait in the U.S., according to the CDC. At that time more than 272,000 doses of the vaccine had been administered.
According to the CDC, the UK reported two cases of anaphylaxis of the vaccine earlier this month.
So far, 89,000 people across New York have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.

As he develops his agenda for next year, the Democratic governor said he was trying to combine economic activity with social distancing. “The balance will be, how are vaccines and tests used to determine safety?” Said Mr. Cuomo.
The state has prioritized vaccines for health care workers, as well as for residents and residential staff.
On Wednesday, emergency medical workers at the New York Fire Department also began receiving the vaccine. FDNY commissioner Daniel Nigro said at a news conference that nearly 6,000 FDNY employees have hired Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
“We hope to be able to vaccinate 450 people a day in three places and start providing that protection, that miracle that came to us, and start leaving Covid behind,” Nigro said.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 patients in New York hospitals rose again on Tuesday to 6,864, state officials said. Officials said 164 people in the state died from the virus on Tuesday, and of the 204,361 coronavirus tests reported in the state, 5.84% were positive.
