Ryan Anderson, an outside defender unlikely to reach the Giants ’final roster, has been suspended for six games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing policy and substance program, the league announced Saturday.
Anderson won’t have the roster and won’t be paid during his suspension either, so strangely, that could help him stay with the Giants, if they have an interest in him. Anderson will be allowed to play Sunday’s preseason final against the Patriots at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants signed Anderson, 24, on a $ 1.1 million one-year deal. He spent his first four NFL seasons with Washington and played 52 games, with six career sacks. He started the training camp this summer on the list of non-football injuries with an earlier number, was cut in early August and then re-signed. He did little to stamp himself as a player destined to make the final round of cuts. All teams must be at the 53-player limit by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
