The new Switch OLED model arrives next month and before its release, Nintendo has released a considerable update, which has outperformed the system firmware up to version 13.0.0.

We learned how Bluetooth audio support looked in an update earlier this year and it has now been officially released. Headphones, earphones, speakers, and other Bluetooth-enabled audio devices can now be paired with Switch family systems. Bluetooth microphones are not supported and can be paired with up to two wireless controllers with the system when using Bluetooth audio. You also cannot use Bluetooth audio when local wireless communication is active.

In addition, 13.0.0 includes an update to the dock. This is for docks with a LAN port (specifically the one posted next to the new OLED model). There is now also an option to “maintain” your Internet connection when your system is in sleep mode and the setting is enabled by default. The calibration of the control panel has also been adjusted and there is now a way to check if your network connection uses a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency.

Here are the full notes of the patch, courtesy of Nintendo’s official website:

Ver. 13.0.0 (released on September 14, 2021)

Bluetooth audio support has been added.

  • Headphones, earphones, speakers, and other audio devices that connect with Bluetooth can now be combined with Nintendo Switch family systems for audio output.
    • Bluetooth microphones are not supported.
    • Up to two compatible wireless drivers can be connected to the system while using Bluetooth audio.
    • Bluetooth audio cannot be used while local wireless communication is active.
    • For more information, see How to pair and manage Bluetooth audio devices.

“Update Dock” was added to System in System Settings for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model systems, allowing software updates to Nintendo Switch docks with a LAN port.

  • Dock software updates are not available for Nintendo Switch docks without a LAN port.
  • This feature was not added to Nintendo Switch Lite.
  • For more information, see How to upgrade your firmware.

“Maintain Internet connection in sleep mode” has been added to “Sleep mode” in the system settings.

  • When this setting is enabled, systems with wired Internet connections will maintain the Internet connection even in sleep mode. This allows software and additional content to be downloaded to the system while the system is in sleep mode.
    • The setting is enabled by default.
  • When this option is turned off, the system will only connect to the Internet periodically, which will decrease power consumption.

Note: Systems that are not upgraded to version 13.0.0 or later behave as if this setting is enabled.

The method to start “Calibrate Control Calibration” in system settings was changed.

  • From System Settings, go to Controllers and sensors, select Calibrates the control pallets, then fully tilt the control in any direction and hold it tilted for a few seconds to begin calibration.

Users can now see if their wireless Internet connection uses the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency band in “Connection Status” after selecting Internet in System Settings.
